Advisory Boards and Commissions

City Planning Commission

The City Planning Commission is an eleven member board whose primary job is to make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council concerning the policies relating to land use, development, and planning within the community.

The Commission reviews and provides recommendations on subdivision approvals, rezoning requests, street and alley vacations, capital improvement expenditures, text changes to the sign, subdivision, and zoning codes, and other community planning issues.

The Commission is also responsible for the preparation and maintenance of a comprehensive plan for the community. The comprehensive plan establishes the goals and policies of the city.

The goals and policies contained in the plan serve as a guide to official decisions concerning the physical development of the city. The Planning Commission meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Bluffs Public Library meeting room. The Mayor and City Council appoint members of the Commission and members serve without compensation.
